Deep-Sea Spacewalkers: Training for the Moon Underwater!
Want to visit the Moon or Mars? First, you might need to strap on scuba gear and hang out with the fish!
Space is super far away, freezing cold, and has no air to breathe. Practicing up there would be wildly expensive and dangerous! So how do space agencies get brave explorers ready before blasting them into the cosmos? They send them deep beneath the ocean waves!
Meet the 'analog astronauts.' These are scientists and space explorers who test out gear, practice moonwalks, and live in tiny underwater stations for weeks at a time. Down below, water pushes up against your body in an effect called buoyancy. By adjusting weights on their diving suits, explorers can float just like someone hopping across the Moon's low gravity!
