The floating gardens of 2045: How we'll live in the sky
Imagine a whole neighborhood — with parks, houses, and shops — hanging way up in the clouds!
Cities today take up SO much space on the ground. Engineers in Japan think they've cracked a wild idea: build cities that float in the sky using giant helium balloons and lightweight carbon frames. Each floating block would grow its own food in vertical gardens, use tiny solar drones to move sunlight around, and connect to the ground with super-fast elevators. It sounds like science fiction, but the first small prototype already flew over Tokyo Bay in 2024. Scientists say the biggest challenge isn't building it — it's making sure a windy day doesn't send your bedroom drifting off to Osaka!
