Plugging In Across America: More EV Chargers Are Hitting the Road!
Imagine cruising on a long road trip without ever worrying about your car battery going flat! States across the country are building hundreds of fast-charging hubs to make that happen.
Electric cars are super cool because they zoom quietly on battery power instead of burning gasoline. But there has always been one tricky puzzle for drivers: what happens when your battery starts running low during a long road trip? Just like a smartphone needs an outlet when you are out all day, an electric car needs a fast roadside plug!
To solve this, states are rolling out thousands of brand-new charging spots with help from a federal effort called the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program, or NEVI for short. Texas recently approved $226 million to set up 321 new charging stations across major travel routes, while Arizona just celebrated the grand opening of its very first one.
