Bye-Bye, Old Power Plants? Kids Speak Up for a Cleaner Indiana!
Have you ever wondered where your electricity comes from? And what happens when making it isn't so good for our planet? Let's find out!
Imagine a big, old, noisy car that drinks a lot of gas and puffs out a lot of yucky smoke. Now imagine that car is super expensive to keep running! That's a bit like what some old power plants are.
Recently, kids, families, and grown-ups in Indiana spoke up. They gathered over 1,300 messages, like a giant pile of thoughtful letters, and delivered them to their state leaders! Their message was clear: please don't spend more money trying to fix and keep these old, expensive, and polluting power plants running.
These old power plants often burn something called 'coal.' While coal can make electricity, it also creates a lot of air pollution, which isn't good for our lungs or the planet. The activists want Indiana to choose cleaner, cheaper ways to make power, like from the sun or wind, instead of keeping the 'smokey old cars' on the road.
