Pocket Brain to Cloud Brain: Qualcomm Moves into Data Centers!

What happens when people stop buying new phones? A chip giant packs its bags and moves into giant computer warehouses!

You might not know the name Qualcomm, but there is a big chance their microchips power your family's smartphones right now! For years, Qualcomm grew fast by designing the miniature brains that connect handheld devices to cell towers and run mobile games.

Recently, however, people have stopped swapping out their phones so quickly. Because mobile phone sales dropped by about 20 percent compared to last year, Qualcomm needed a fresh plan to keep building and selling its powerful silicon chips.

Their new destination? Giant buildings known as data centers! Think of a data center like an enormous library packed with rows of glowing, humming supercomputers. Big tech companies like Amazon and Meta need massive amounts of computing muscle to run modern artificial intelligence tools, and Qualcomm wants to supply those chips.
